Chief Executive

Chief Executive

Chief Executive: The person who holds the office of head of state of the United States government.

Jimmy Carter as Chief Executive:

One of the most important roles of the Chief Executive position is the ability to issue executive orders that are within the president's scope of power. An important example of an executive order issued by President Carter was Executive Order 11803 in 1977. This order was to review the cases of people who had avoided military service under the draft, especially as it related to the Vietnam War. Under his Chief Executive powers, the president also proposes a spending and taxation plan to the United States Congress. President Carter's budgets gradually reduced military spending in favor of other domestic programs. President Carter proposed tax policies to promote energy conservation. And finally, the Chief Executive has the duty of appointing the cabinet that operates the executive branch departments of the United States government. Below is a list of the people that President Jimmy Carter selected to carry out the foreign and domestic policies of his administration, which included initiatives to bring peace to the middle east, and energy conservation at home.
